New Sewing Pattern: The Velo Knit Cap

I just added a new PDF sewing pattern in the shop! The Velo knit cap, the perfect slim fit, easy to sew, knit hat for any cold-weather activities. Ideal for wearing underneath a helmet when biking and skiing or on its own for hiking, running or just anytime you need to keep warm without the bulk.

I created this pattern for myself several years ago, since I couldn’t find anything similar in shops. Over the years I’ve also gotten regular requests about making it available as a sewing pattern and it did take me a while to make it happen, but now the pattern is finally here! I’ve graded it in five sizes: XS–S–M–L-XL and the size range includes both children and adult sizes:

XS (52 cm | 20 1/2″)
S (54cm | 21 1/4″)
M (56 cm | 22″)
L (58 cm | 22 5/8”)
XL (60 cm | 23 1/2″)

It’s a bit inspired by a traditional Swedish hat, usually made out of felted wool, that’s often a part of our regional costumes, which are called Folkdräkt (folk costume). So this is a style that is a historically proven winter garment!

Materials

Stretch fleece, stretchy softshell and knits with good recovery (like cotton or wool) are suitable for this pattern. The fabric should have at least 30% crosswise stretch and 10% lengthwise.
Fold-over elastic (I have some great sewing tutorials for attaching FOE)

►Fabric length: 0.4 m (0.44 yards) of knit fabric/140 cm (55″) wide

►Fold-over elastic length: 50 cm (20 3/4″) to (58 cm | 22 5/8″) depending on size.

PDF Sewing Pattern Info

The Velo knit hat is a PDF print-at-home file (Letter & A4). Each size is printed separately. Seam allowances are included. Every step is clearly illustrated with technical drawings. The pattern also includes a bonus photo booklet with even more sewing techniques!
