Sleeve and Cuff
The sleeves for the Dora top uses a fun pattern construction technique that sews the sleeve and cuff in one piece. I first saw this in the book Metric pattern cutting and then I saw a different version in the Japanese pattern magazine Mrs Stylebook. The draft I used is a combination of both methods, and here I will show how it works.
First the sleeve is slashed and a horizontal dart is drafted. The bigger the slash the more gathers.
The finished pattern will look like this.
Cut the dart open.
This sleeve after the cutting is done
Next the upper part is gathered.
And the cuff is sewn together.
Close the dart by sewing the cuff and gathered part together.
Like this. Now the cuff is finished and all that remains is the hemming. I used a coverstitch since I’m working with jersey.
The finished sleeve. The assembly technique is something I figured out myself, since I couldn’t find a tutorial. But I’m sure there could be other versions as well.
