My copy of a Marni skirt.
And the inspiration: A wool pleated skirt from Marni.
As I’ve talked about before, I enjoy prowling Net-A-Porter for sewing inspiration. Often times I come up empty handed, but occasionally I find something that I totally matches my taste-DNA. One thing I love is short skirts with pleats, I think I have at least five! And especially I gravitate towards designs that uses pleats in a creative way. Like this wool Marni skirt.
Since I already had some organic cotton twill in my stash I decided to use that fabric instead of wool. The downside is that a nice quality wool just looks much more stylish than the wrinkle prone cotton I used. But since stash reduction is my goal, I used what I got. The front pleats actually have pockets and a pockets seam is stitched on top of the pleats. But to be honest, these pockets are just for decoration since there is no way things can stay put inside these pleats!
When I find something I love, I save it on my Pinterest board. These are a few garments that I plan to use as inspiration for future sewing. Do you have a habit of copying ready to wear or do you prefer to make a more personal mark on the garments you sew?
