Prevent gaping and puckering when sewing neckbands on knit tops with these simple tips 💡👕
1. Since knit fabrics vary in stretch and recovery, you might need to adjust the neckband length for best fit. 2. Sew the neckline with the neckband facing up towards you for better control and to prevent stretching out the neckline fabric. Stretch only the neckband and ensure that the stretch is evenly distributed along the neckline.
3. Puckers or draglines: Press the neckline with an iron from the reverse side to remove the puckers. Gently shape the area to smooth it out even more. 4. My new pants up-close 👀 I used an old shirt for the pocket lining. And the reason the waistband looks nice is because I hand-basted it before stitching in the ditch 🙃
Another trick is that I finish the waistband ends by folding them in and then slip-stitching them to close the edges.
